Youth Group and Small Group Leader Training
Basic Leader Training
Another12’s basic leader training course is an introductory course that is designed for use as an annual, initial leadership training module for youth leaders at the start of each year. This course is designed to give new leaders a strong introductory foundation for youth leadership while refreshing experienced leaders in the fundamentals of youth ministry.
Training Course Outline:
Godly Obedience
All believers are called to obedience as a function of living out their faith in Jesus Christ. (James 2:14-26)
Authority of Scripture
The Holy Bible, referred to as the Scripture, is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21)
Basic Hermenutics
Proper interpretation of Scripture is essential to understanding the Word of God and guarding against the proliferation of heresy. (Luke 24:27)
Personal Spiritual Growth
Spiritual growth in the lives of believers is essential, not only for continued sanctification, but also for carrying out effective ministry. (James 1:19-27)
Servant Leadership
Scripture teaches that faith without works is dead, and that true faith is manifested by works. Jesus modeled this by living a life defined by serving. (James 3:14-26, John 13:1-17)
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is present in the hearts of modern-day believers and is active in guiding, directing, and moving through the world to accomplish His work. Believers must work in submission and conjunction with the Holy Spirit in carrying out their God-given ministry calling. (Matthew 28:19, Mark 13:11, John 14:26, Acts 5:29-32)
Basic Apologetics
Scripture exhorts believers to be prepared to give an answer for the hope they have in Jesus Christ. Nowhere is this more important than in youth ministry. (1 Peter 3:14-16)
The Prayer of a Righteous Person
James 4:16b says, "The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." As believers step out into the battlefield of ministry, they carry only two weapons with them, God's Word and prayer. Believers must be powerful in prayer if they are going to be successful in ministry. Jesus exemplified this during His ministry, and believers must follow his example by being fervent in prayer for the Holy Spirit to actively use them in ministry.
Making Disciples
All believers are required to share the gospel, however, many do so without any preparation. Even the disciples of Jesus did not go out on mission without training. Proper training is essential for believers who are actively engaged in ministry where opportunities to share the gospel abound. (Acts 1:6-8)
Advanced Leader Training
Youth leaders continually face challenging questions, situations, and experiences during ministry. To meet these challenges with confidence and competence, leaders must be continually gaining relevant knowledge and understanding. In response to this need, Another12 is developing an ever-growing library of ongoing training resources which cover a wide range of relevant topics for youth ministry. This library is comprised of short audio and video segments ranging from 5-20 minutes in length. Each segment, or series of segments, will address a topic and is designed for use in several ways.
First, these segments can be accessed by youth leaders independently, as needed. They are arranged topically so that leaders can interact with segment(s) which interest them or address a question/situation which they are currently facing in ministry. This is extremely valuable for new leaders who are facing questions/topics which are new to them or outside the scope of their experience and study.
Second, these segments are designed for use by youth pastors who are seeking to engage in continuing training with their leadership teams. Another12’s advanced training library is an effective tool for building skills, disciplines, and unity in youth leader teams. It addresses issues and topics that will enable the individual youth leaders to grow in their walk and be more effective in their disciple-making ministry work. As with everything we do, the advanced training segments will be biblically focused, doctrinally sound, and evangelistically driven.
